  • Day 1

    2005

Sjef comes with a flatbed trailer and the idea of making something immobile mobile. We jump on this idea and start working together... This is the first time I ever use a metal sander. It feels good to work like a man.

  • We build the camera tent into a mobile public space. We invite patients into the tent to share the experience of a photographic phenomenon. The totally unexpected could be right around the corner. We decide on an exposure time of one hour divided over several patients.

  • The mobility of the tent makes it possible for us to approach patients in their daily space. We drive through the terrain with the tent mounted on a trailer, pulled by Sjef's van. The waltzes playing over mobilephone to the stereo make me grin in the tent as they drive me from setting to setting.

  • Sjef and I move the tent from department to department, welcoming people into the light-lock that gives access to the camera's interior.

  • Inside, we manage to arrange a space that patients can relate to. A social encounter is created with coffee, snacks, flowers, and Kor, who is hosting inside. Though patients agree to be recorded inside, they refuse to be photographed outside.

  • What kind of music to play as we rolled through the grounds? Sjef comes with the idea of playing the tunes off mobile phones... The sound reminds me of icecream trucks back home.

  • Photogram

    2005

A much stiller image that evokes the quietness of movement. As well as 2 of the other artists, two patients go in, staying for 10 and 20 minutes. They leave with smiles and flowers.
